New date set for Gladman 2

Cheshire East is to consider the Gladman 2 duplicate planning application to build up to 120 homes at Little Heath at a meeting on December 9th.

The move follows alarm that the item had not been included on the agenda of the Strategic Planning Board meeting on December 4th

Members of Audlem Parish Council feared the second Gladman application could follow the first in 'running out of time' for not being determined within the statutory 13 weeks.

But Cheshire East planners have assured parish councillors that the Gladman 2 proposal will now definitely go before the council's Strategic Planning Board five days later on December 9th.

The latest date still leaves the application running perilously close to the 13 week deadline as the plans were formally submitted to Cheshire East Council by Gladman on September 3rd.

Gladman Developments Ltd went straight to appeal when Cheshire East failed to determine its original application within the 13 week window.

The date of the appeal hearing has still to be set amid speculation about Cheshire East's resolve to contest planning appeals following the government's rejection of the council's housing land supply figures.

Meetings held behind closed doors have questioned if Cheshire East can now afford to fight a number of planning appeals on large housing schemes, but no announcement has yet been made.

The latest duplicate Gladman application is primarily a technical move that allows the developer to make minor alteration to the plans while the original goes before an appeal Planning Inspector.

However, failure to determine the duplicate Gladman 2 application within the statutory 13 weeks would be deeply embarrassing for Cheshire East as it was this failure that prompted the appeal on the first application.

• Cheshire East Highways officials say they have no objection to the Gladman 2 proposals. Their comments are the same as for Gladman 1, that is "recommendation of approval subject to the introduction of a speed limit change, traffic calming measures on Audlem Road and a right turn ghost lane access."
