A reminder that the bin collection day for most in Audlem has changed to Tuesday from tomorrow, Tuesday 10th May. This week it's the black bin. On 17th May, it's the Silver Recycled and Brown Garden waste bins.

Cheshire East has distributed detailed information on bin collections – check the dates in case they vary from the above information. The information also describes what should and should not go in the Silver bins following the demise of the green bins.

The list that's fine for the silver bin includes food tins, drinks cans, sweet/biscuit tins, metal lids, glass bottles and jars – so reducing those very public trips to the car park with empty wine and beer bottles (!) – all plastic bottles, containers and trays, all paper, cartons, aluminium foil and foil trays and empty household steel and aluminium aerosols.

There's loads more details in the leaflet with a variety of helpful hints. It also describes what happens to the waste at the new Materials Recovery Facility at Shotton in North Wales.

One issue has been raised by a number of Audlem Online readers. It appears that the regular bin collection teams that have worked in Audlem for some years have been transferred elsewhere in Cheshire East.

We are told that the binmen are unhappy as they have liked working in Audlem and will be working many miles away – possibly Macclesfield, we were told. The residents that have raised the issue are equally unhappy to be losing such a good team. We asked Cheshire East why this was happening.

Cllr Rod Menlove, Cheshire East Cabinet member with responsibility for environmental services, said: "Bin collection staff in the former Crewe & Nantwich and Congleton boroughs will not be deployed in Macclesfield and vice-versa.

"However, we do aim to optimise our service by re-shaping collections rounds so that they are not limited by the boundaries of the former districts of Macclesfield, Congleton and Crewe and Nantwich. We will also seek to make best use of our staff across Cheshire East as a whole. We will always want to take advantage of the knowledge our frontline staff have about particular areas."
