It looks as though all the work last year by the Parish Council (with significant support from the community) to push through the Audlem Neighbourhood Plan as quickly as possible was a smart move. Quite apart from the benefits of the Plan itself, significant financial and other help was provided by Cheshire East in getting the Plan through and approved, and it seems that the financial element of this support may be much less available in the future.
Following central government's reduction in the support given to Borough Councils for Neighbourhood Plans, the agenda for the Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning on 13th December includes an item proposing that Cheshire East do away with the financial grants that they used to provide to communities trying to progress their Plans. This proposal is just one of the Borough Council's attempts to make huge savings in their expenditure.
So Audlem, as one of the first communities in Cheshire East to produce a Neighbourhood Plan, had the benefit of having the Plan in place quickly as well as having a significant part of the costs met by the Borough Council.
