The second XI travelled to Mossley for their first game of the season. New captain Toby Banfield won the toss and elected to bat. Following the loss of a quick wicket, Andy Rothwell and John Wainwright put on a good partnership with runs coming quickly. When Rothwell was the victim of a very good caught and bowled having scored 31 the run rate dropped dramatically. Good bowling by the home side kept the rate down whilst wickets fell regularly. Only Wainwright with a dogged 21 gave any resistance. Jeeva pushed the score over the 100 mark with a quick fire 20 including a well-hit 6 into the pavilion. Audlem were eventually all out for 109 in the 41st over.

Mossley's reply was quite uneventful with Audlem's bowlers failing to achieve the necessary breakthrough. A steady opening partnership set the groundwork and Mossley reached 100 for the loss of only 2 wickets. Late wickets by Raj and Rothwell claimed another point for Audlem and added some respectability to the scoreboard. However, Mossley comfortably passed the target with six wickets in hand to claim 25 points to Audlem's 6.

Next Saturday the 2nd XI entertain Capenhurst at the Gorse Croft ground. Play starts at 2pm.
