At least 24 historic narrow boats, ranging from 75 to 114 years old, will be moored on the canal at Audlem this weekend.  They will be outside Audlem Mill, and on the stretch of canal below the wharf.

This gathering of boats, coinciding with the Audlem Festival of Transport on the playing field, has been organised by Peter and Chris Silvester at Audlem Mill.

Many of the boats have travelled considerable distances to come to Audlem (some taking up to two weeks to get here), and in only its third year, this boat gathering is now likely to become an important event in the canal world.

The number of historic boats coming to Audlem is believed to be only four less than will be attending the annual national waterways festival, which has been going for 60 years!

This historic boat  event in Audlem has been widely publicised by Peter and Chris, and details have appeared in the four national canal magazines and the monthly newspaper Towpath Talk, as well as many canal society journals around the country.

It has also just been featured on the British Waterways Waterscape website weekly newsletter.  At least one of the canal magazines is sending a photographer to cover the event.

Peter and Chris would like to thank all the boat owners for coming to Audlem and presenting such a colourful spectacle, and also Sue Cawson (and her dog Fly) on narrow boat Thea, for so efficiently organising the boat arrivals and moorings.
