Nantwich Players a resounding Festival success

Ralph Warburton reports on last night's theatrical performance in the Public Hall: "The major first of presenting a serious play, performed by the award winning Nantwich Players, was a resounding success last night. A very appreciative audience of aroound 70 enjoyed immmensly the whole evening with much laughter and applause for the excellent acting.

"I must confess I was very nervous about putting on such an event, for it was totally uncharted waters for Audlem. However, in spite of severe worries just 10 days ago of not getting the support it warranted, it all came good on the night. Perhaps we can repeat such a night for 2009. Who knows?"

Ian Haughey reports on yesterday's music scene: "Saturday Festival day – 10.30am and the doors open at the Scout Hall and an appreciative audience are entertained by Back Row & Forlorn hope. The Methodist Church opened its doors to some very controversial and interesting art, prompting numerous comments for the rest of the day. (separate review coming shortly).

"On the music front, Pete Price entertained an audience enjoying the wonderful weather on the steps and grounds of St James Church. A great set that Pete delivers in a mix of blues guitar styles in the aptly named 'Blues Alley' outside the Priest House Coffee shop. Moving to the Lord Combermere where there were three young bands playing. The Strangers – Audlem's youngest band – opening the stage, followed by Fake Heroes who's stage presence is ever growing. Crash Course completed the line up with a solid performance, all supported by an audience enjoying the set up outside the Lord Combermere.

"Moving to the evening and all four pubs had full line ups performing – the Lord Combermere started the entertainment with Mike and Val Warner, Mike making his debut performance though you would not have known it. JVC, The Boat Band, Bob on Our Side and Vavoom entertained packed houses making a fantastic evening of music. Al Dean and John Gunstone, D&G, rounding the evening of music up at the Combermere.

"The Festival of Music and Art has got off to a great start, with the quality and range of musical styles providing something for everyone, creating a great atmosphere."
