Muller Houses – Real Risk to Life

Submission:
Having written to the powers that be to make sure Cheshire East fully appreciate the risk they are putting pedestrians at if they grant permission for the 127 Muller houses on the other side of the Shropshire Union canal bridge, I want to also focus our attention on this.

This risk should not be underestimated, particularly when you look at the numbers. – 127 houses x 4 people per house = 508 more people walking over the bridge to get to the amenities in Audlem. School, gift and flower shops, Coop, 3 pubs, hairdressers, Williams, the chippy, Indian, dry cleaners, Boots, butchers, the village hall, playing field, park and scout hall. (Sorry if I missed anyone)

All of these businesses are on the other side of the canal from the proposed development. There are no amenities on the Whitchurch side of the bridge. However you cut the numbers it s a lot of daily crossings, oh, and when they have bought their loaf of bread they will need to cross back, perhaps more than once a day.

For Muller to demonstrate sustainability they use the proximity of the amenities to be within walking distance. If people from the estate choose to drive into the village there will, potentially be 200+ cars wanting to park at some point. We don t have enough yellow lines to accommodate them all.

We know that many already cross the bridge risking the narrow pavement as its on the side of the road where many of shops etc are. This presents a very real risk to pedestrian safety and in making this point to Cheshire East someone must be accountable when the risk to life is finally recognised. Once these houses are built they can t be unbuilt.

Maybe there is a need for more houses but not this side of the bridge as nothing can be done to mitigate the risk now or in the future. Once built we have potentially 400 to 500+ pedestrians needing to get into the village. I really hope CE understand this and will accept and be accountable for the risk, the bridge is what it is!

The attachment is a summary version of my object focusing on the bridge and it s risk, sent to the powers that be
