Results of the most popular Moths competition at the recent Audlem Festival, your readers might be interested.

Apart from interesting displays of local feathered birds, and a view of how far wildflower roots descend in search of nutrients, wild life walks around the field, the eye catching amazingly colourful display was of Moths found in your garden, all photographed this year locally in the same spot. 417 species found so far this year since March.

Its gratifying to note that we have so much biodiversity and keeping a wild undisturbed garden corner will help. From 25 moths on display, festival goers were asked for their favourite.

The winner is the Small Elephant Hawk Moth, closely followed by the Blotched Emerald and Black Arches. All 3 are stunners and are not pests

One of the other moths we recorded this year is a species never seen in Cheshire before, which might be to do with global warming but we have a rich local environment and keeping those bug sprays in the cupboard, mowing your lawn less and being tolerant of a few weeds will help to sustain our wildlife diversity.

AWEG meetings and visits calendar is here and AWEG welcomes new members.

All the best
