Following up yesterday's story of a buzzard attack, it seems this wasn't an isolated incident.
Mark Fetherstone has contacted Audlem Online to say: "Just to let you know I was attacked by the same bird at exactly the same spot last weekend!
"Didn't get any warning until I got a whack on the back of my head! Turned around and was literally eye to eye with a Buzzard! Amazing experience, and yet another good reason to wear a helmet."
Darren also has written to the Chatbox. He says:
"I was cycling along Holingreen Lane this week and felt a tap on my cycle helmet from above. I looked up and couldn't see any thing, but I am sure it was the buzzard that is resident in the oak trees half way along the lane.
"I've seen this bird many times before. Usually I see its shadow following me as I cycle along, and a few times it has swooped down towards me, once tapping my cycle helmet before flying off.
"It is certainly worth wearing a helmet for this reason alone! Has anyone else been attacked along the lane?"
Checking back, we first reported an attack in 2010 when Chris J reported an incident in the same area. Curiously, or perhaps significantly, it was at exactly the same time of year as these latest incidents. Which indicates protecting a nest or young, we suspect.
Or maybe it's cycle helmets the buzzard doesn't like. All the cyclists attacked having been wearing them!
Incidentally, the buzzard in the photo isn't necessarily the one involved.
