At the Audlem District Amenities Society's annual general meeting this week, Mike Hill was elected chairman, succeeding Ralph Warburton who will remain on the committee after completing his hugely successful three year term of office as chairman. Julie Hesketh was elected Vice Chairman.

Mike is well known in Audlem and was chairman of Audlem Parish Council immediately before Richard Furber took over in 2004.

ADAS aims to stimulate interest in, and care for, the beauty, history and character of Audlem, Buerton, Coxbank and Lightwood Green. ADAS provides all the plants, shrubs and displays in and around the district's public areas. This has included tree and bulb planting along the canal and spring bedding plants in the troughs and flower beds to give a splash of colour in Spring each year.

As well as providing all the Christmas lights and trees, ADAS organises the carol singing round the Christmas tree in the centre of the village; the Open Garden Weekend; the Scarecrow event; the annual Schools' Painting Competition; the seed planting competition for the school children and their fashion show as well as holding the Silent Auction and other fund-raising events.

Mike Hill paid tribute to the enormous effort Ralph Warburton has put in to his chairmanship of the organization which has led to so many successful events and improvements to the area. His aim as the new chairman, he said, will be to emulate Ralph's achievements and success.
