Firstly I would like to thank all who have supported me throughout the last three years as Leader of Cheshire East Council.
I took over the reins at a challenging time, staff morale was low and a police investigation had begun into a procurement matter. Our journey of improvement is recognised nationally, we have a balanced budget, staff morale has improved massively and we continue to be rightfully recognised for our award winning services, most recently shortlisted in three categories for the Municipal Journal Awards.
I am saddened that the fantastic progress made by Cheshire East Council failed to return a majority for the Conservative Leadership – Brexit clearly impacted on results across the country and whilst I have no involvement whatsoever in the seven historic matters investigated and referred to the police they did become part of a negative opposition campaign in our electoral area; disappointing when they are the result of the council putting things right.
I have received the most wonderful messages of thanks for my work, however I feel it is now timely for me to afford more time to my duties in Audlem Ward as well as to my family.
Kind regards
Rachel
