Audlem Mill was privileged this weekend to host a "Jacobean Whitework" masterclass from the world's leading expert – Gary Clarke from Tasmania.

Several local ladies thoroughly enjoyed this rare opportunity. Gary and his wife were only in England for a few days, and Audlem Mill was extremely lucky to be one of only three venues at which he chose to teach, proof of the Mill's growing reputation as a quality needlework centre.

After the wonderful instruction, all the participants took home one of Gary's designs to work on, and all seemed inspired to continue to finish the project.

During the course, Gary's wife Helen had a look round Audlem, and was impressed by this quintessential English village. She thought it was rather like Midsomer (yes, they get many British TV programmes in Tasmania), but she was assured that Audlem is slightly safer to live in – unless you are a bear (she saw the bear baiting stone).

Regular needlework and craft courses will resume at Audlem Mill in early autumn – details will be on www.audlemmill.co.uk nearer the time, or ask at the Mill. We will continue to search for courses as unusual and enjoyable, and would welcome any requests or suggestions. With over 15 years in the embroidery and needlework trade, we have a wide range of specialist contacts.
