Marvellous Maths Week and More!

It has been Maths Week in school this week with each class exploring the wonders of maths. It has been wonderful to visit classrooms and see the children learning about Maths in so many ways. Here are a few 'snapshots' from each class:

Amethyst class have been using the story of the 3 Little Pigs and exploring size, weighing different materials and working out the lightest and heaviest as well as using maths words to describe the position of things.

In Year 1, Sapphire class have based their maths investigations on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, using rulers to measure inside and outside and using clocks to sequence events.

Year 2 have used the book Equal Shmequal to learn more about the concept of equal. The children have used equivalents in number sentences and found equal amounts in their work.

Amber class have linked their maths work to their Rainforest topic and used the book The Great Pet Sale to work on money problems using addition and subtraction.

Year 4s in Emerald class have also linked their maths work with their topic and looked at Anglo Saxon timelines. Ruby class have used the text The Lost Sandal to investigate fractions and measurement linked to the Romans, whilst Diamond class have been looking at temperatures in contrasting locations based on their class book The Garbage King. They have also been creating line graphs to show their findings. What a Marvellous Maths mix of activities!

Thank you to the parents and carers who joined us for the Maths workshops after school on Tuesday. There were many positive comments about how the workshops had helped clarify the expectations of Maths for year groups as well as offering ideas for supporting children at home.
The presentations from these workshops will be put onto our school website soon (under Parent Handouts) for information.

Amber class shared a fun filled class assembly with their parents on Tuesday morning – they shared a typical day in Amber class and showcased a wide range of creative work – their class display of Kung Fu punctuation was a delight to share! Well done everyone. Thank you to Mrs Robinson-Cartlidge and Mrs Gavin for providing us all with the special 'Winter Warmer' lunch yesterday. It made everyone smile and kept us all warm!

comfort during the winter months.

Good luck to our football team who are representing our school at the Crewe Alexandra Football competition today – I will update you next week about their experiences.
A reminder that our Active Audlem session for staff, children and parents is next Thursday from 8.30am. I hope to see you there.

FASA
FASA met on Wednesday to plan events for this term. Once again there are several events including:
Film Night – Wednesday 22nd March 5-7pm
Non Uniform Day for Easter Fair Tombola donations – Friday 17th March
Easter Fair – Wednesday 29th March 3.15pm – 5pm
FASA are desperately seeking more volunteers to support the planning and running of events moving forward – please look out for a letter being sent out soon about how you can help with this.

ABC Childcare
ABC have spaces in their after school clubs this half term. These clubs are: Monday – Arts and
Crafts,
Tuesday – Baking, Wednesday – Lego, Thursday – Outdoor Club and Friday – Respect Club.
The team would like to welcome all the new children that have started at ABC for breakfast,
after school, and preschool since the Christmas break.

Spaces in Clubs
We also still have some vacancies in this half term's clubs. Homework, Maths 24, Netball, Board Games and EYFS/Key Stage 1 Choir all have spaces. If you would like your child to take part in one of these clubs please contact Mrs Gunstone, Mrs Howard or Mrs Taylor in our School Office.
Unfortunately, due to lack of uptake, the Sportscape Dodgeball and Frisbee Clubs have had to be cancelled this half term.

Safety Online
Many children (and adults) will have received games and electronic devices for Christmas gifts recently. As part of our ongoing work to promote Keeping Safe Online, I would like to remind you of the helpful and informative resources which can be found in the 'Share Aware' section of the NSPCC website. This campaign is aimed at helping parents to keep their child safe on social networks. The campaign is particularly relevant for parents of children aged 8-12 and aims to give information and advice in a straightforward and no nonsense manner. I am providing the
hyperlink for your information here or go to
http://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe/share-aware/

Please check the esafety section of our school website for more helpful websites and information about online safety.

Finally
It is important that our newsletter and all other forms of communication we send out give you a
clear and detailed picture of our work in school, so that you are kept up to date with events in
school and our community. If you have any ideas, comments or suggestions about the content of
newsletters please get in touch with me.
