Helen Meyrick is leading February's Long ARS walk around Ellesmere, the nearby canal, the mere and Colemere; this is her description:-

We will start at the The Moor car park, which is on the right hand side as you enter Ellesmere. The postcode is SY12 0PA and there is a charge of £2 per car for the day. (When Jean and I reccied it, we saw that it takes payment by card but the machine was broken that day).

We will walk briefly into the town, until we reach the wharf at the back of Tesco to begin the walk proper. From there we will follow the canal, which in places was very muddy, so if the weather is wet in the few days prior, please take extra care. We will take in Blakemere and a good section of Colemere, before breaking off towards Lyneal. There is a mile or so stretch of road walking until we rejoin the canal at Lyneal Wharf. We then head towards the village of Welshampton, where we leave the road and into the fields. There were no stiles or livestock to contend with but there were quite a lot of people shooting a week ago, so please be aware if your dog is likely to get nervous. From here, we will be able to see the Vale of Llangollen, Glyn Ceriog and Llanymynech Hill. Eventually we will reach Crimps Farm, and finish the walk by joining the back of the mere at Ellesmere.

I reckon this is a 2 – 3 booter, as it's around 10 miles (and possibly muddy) but it's pretty much flat for most of the way.

Please meet up in Audlem car park for 8:30am.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.
Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.
