Meet Audlem Car Park for departure 8.30 am
Leader Karen Mason
A 7.5 mile walk in the Clwydian Range, North Wales. It is fairly strenuous in parts with a few steep climbs, but regular hill walkers should have no problems.
Parking:1 mile North of Llanarmon-yn-Ial (Post code CH74QE).
Grid ref (Explorer 265): 189 573
What3 words: scrapping mystified consented
More then half the stiles have now been replaced with kissing gates but there are 3 fields with notices saying cows with calves (though we didn't see any on the recce).
Total ascent: 464 m/1522ft
The walk begins from a parking area on the B5430, about a mile North of LLanarmon-yn-Ial and rises through farmland, conifer forests and wild-flower meadows to meet the Offa s Dyke Path, with extensive views across the Vale of Clwyd with Snowdonia and Berwyn mountain ranges in the distance. We reach the summit of Moel Gyw (1532ft) with panoramic views and descend to contour Moel Llanfair, rising to Moel-y-Plas before descending to the village of LLanarmon-yn-Ial where there is a small shop serving drinks and cakes, and a pub, both with tables outside where we can stop for refreshments before returning to the parking area over a few fields with a short, final section along a road.
There are 20 stiles (4 dog-friendly) and a few places where we will be near sheep. There are one or two streams to cross where it will be muddy if wet.
NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.
Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.
Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
