The long ARS walk on Saturday, April 13th is a moderate 10 miles among the Clwydian Hills. The description is provided by Connor Mcilwrath who will be leading the walk.

We meet at 8.30am in Audlem car park, meeting up with Connor in Cilcain.

The second half of the walk follows Offa's Dyke Path along the top of the Clwydian hills. On a clear day there are spectacular views over the Clwyd Valley towards Snowdonia, and north towards the Isle of Man. The start is from Cilcain village near Loggerheads.
The first part of the walk is fairly flat contouring around the side of the Clwyds which provides a good warm up for the hills. The path runs through a number of grass fields which are grazed by sheep so dogs will have to be kept under control. The ground is surprisingly dry in most parts following the recent snow but some of the lower lying areas are wet. There were still a few patches of snow last week but these should have now melted with the milder weather.

The first ascent is up the eastern side of Moel Evan. It starts off steep up to the edge of the field and then flattens out through the forest. The route then joins the farm track running up to Moel Arthur. Follow the path down to the car park and then up the steep path on the other side. There was a deep snow drift at the top so if it is still there then we can take the lower path. We are now on Offa's Dyke Path following the ridgeline along the top of the hills all the way to Moel Famau. From the summit we take the path leading north (part of the Clwydian Way) which runs down to Cilcain.
