Local man in BHF publicity campaign

Audlem resident Martin Keighley has become part of the latest public relations campaign for the British Heart Foundation.

In an article which appears on the BBC health news page he talks about familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) which is an hereditary condition that affects approximately one in 500 people in the UK and causes dangerously high levels of harmful cholesterol from an early age. The British Hearth Foundation is concerned that not enough people are aware of its existence – hence this latest publicity push.

Martin found he had FH by accident when he collapsed while out running and (very!) luckily the first person that came to his assistance was a doctor who kept his heart pumping while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
