Local historians end course

Local Audlem historian Roger Wickson yesterday ended his latest annual history course which covered the period running up to the Norman Conquest and the reigns of Williams I and II (the Conquerer and Rufus), Henry I and the unsettled reigns of Stephen and Matilda.

The comprehensive course, which covered thirteen weeks of two-hour sessions each Monday morning, was held at Nantwich Museum and is under the auspices of Keele University.

About a third of those attending are from Audlem and some have been enjoying Roger's courses for well over a decade. Previous to the course just finished was a four-year study of the Crusades.

It is planned, Roger announced yesterday, that a new course will start in November and cover the reigns of Henry II, Richard I and John and examine major issues such as the Henry's conflict with Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and King John and Magna Carta.

Assuming all goes to plan, details are released in advance of each year's course by Keele University.
