Four years ago, Haughton resident Robert Baxter was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Following initial treatment at the Christie hospital in Manchester he was advised to contact the Anthony Nolan Trust to seek further support.
After six months Robert was provided with lifesaving treatment due to the generosity of an individual who had donated stem cells in Seattle, USA.
Robert is now in full remission and leading an active life. Last October he held a fundraising rent in Chester raising £40,000 for the cause.
Earlier this week Robert travelled to Westminster to meet with local MP, Antoinette Sandbach to discuss and promote the work of the Anthony Nolan Trust.
Antoinette Sandbach MP said:
"It was great to meet with Robert to discuss such an important issue which affects a lot of people across our community. I would encourage all of my constituents to consider donating stem cells and tissue to help those affected across Cheshire and the North West."
Robert said: "If you're 16 – 30 and in good health, you can sign up to the Anthony Nolan register by calling 03033030303. New mothers can also donate the blood from the babies' umbilical cord and placenta after you give birth which is totally risk-free for you and your baby."
