The AudlemOnline webteam send articles regularly to the Gossip magazines which are circulated through the Whitchurch, Market Drayton and Audlem areas, to help boost tourism visits to Audlem. This is the latest article in the August editions:
Audlem has continued to enjoy a busy summer with the Music & Arts Festival in late May; the Party on the Park with 2,500 picnicking and enjoying great live music on 1st July and at the end of July (29th and 30th July) the Gathering of Historic Working Boats and on the Sunday the Audlem Transport Festival.
Cyclists have also been visiting in large numbers with the July series of road races organised by Audlem Cycling Club. A new Cycling map produced by local environmental group ADAPT has also proved popular.
Next up in the summer programme of Audlem Events is the Audlem Beer Festival over the late-August Bank Holiday weekend followed in early September by the Overwater RNLI Festival at the marina just a mile outside the village.
The Beer Festival is focussed on The Lord Combermere right in the centre of the village and is now an established annual attraction each August. Over forty beers, ciders and perry will be on offer, with most of the beers local from Cheshire, Shropshire or Staffordshire.
There's Live Music too from the Friday evening through to Bank Holiday Monday. Anyone who has attended an Audlem Music Festival will appreciate the quality of the music and the staging in the village – the same applies to the Beer Festival.
The RNLI Festival sees a range of entertainment on Saturday and Sunday 9th and 10th September. That includes a full card of racing with a sponsored Donkey Derby, a dog show run by Steve Leonard, the TV Vet, and a dog agility demonstration, plus donkey rides after the Derby, together with the usual licensed bar, refreshments, stalls, associated entertainment, and other such attractions.
The Overwater Marina, which opened in 2010 – and already winner of many national awards – is worth a visit in its right. It can be reached by Coole Lane which runs from the west of Audlem towards Nantwich or by the towpath or using Audlem Lass.
Audlem Lass, seen here in the photo, runs every weekend and Bank Holiday from April to October and sails between Lock 15 at the bottom of the Audlem's locks and the marina with service every half hour in each direction. As with the RNLI Festival, the boat service raises funds for the lifeboat charity with typically, £4,000 or so in profits being donated. It's just £1 a trip for adults and 50p for children of five and over. Dogs and pushchairs travel free.
Walking groups also enjoy the many footpaths around Audlem often including a stretch of the canal towpath past the lock system which has been described as one of the best walks in Lowland England.
