Kingfisher on locks

As we know many walk along the canal at Audlem looking, in vain, for a kingfisher, we thought all might enjoy this photo by Alisdair MacKenzie.

It was sent to AudlemOnline yesterday along with a dramatic shot of clouds over the canal, now in the Autumn Local Scenes Gallery.

Kingfishers are seen on both the canal and River Weaver quite regularly but can be remarkably elusive. Despite their very bright plumage, they can blend into the background foliage all too easily.

If you are particularly lucky, you may see one working its way along the canal locks, often stopping for a time at each lock, or on a moored narrow boat, until you get relatively near.
