This week, we have been working on our Keeping Safe theme in school. Children have been considering how to keep themselves and others safe in a variety of lessons based on this theme.
PCSO Nick Jarvis has worked with all classes in school during the week. He has been talking to the children in Amethyst, Pearl and Sapphire classes about Stranger Danger and the importance of staying safe whilst our older children have been learning about staying safe online. This is such an important message in today's technological world.
Following on from our NEP Parent Meeting that Nick ran earlier this year about this theme, I would like to remind parents of some of the key information covered in his session. I am therefore sending a reminder summary out with this newsletter for all families.
Our Year 5 and 6 children have also been working with ChildLine as part of this work. The ChildLine Schools Service covered key messages about keeping safe in their sessions. The NSPCC has developed some guides for all parents of primary school aged children.
You can find these guides at www.nspcc.org.uk/parents or you can request a hard-copy guide for parents and carers by phoning the NSPCC Helpline on 0808 800 5000.
Many thanks to all of the families who sent in cake donations for the Y5 and 6 cake bake sale on Monday. It was wonderfully supported and the children raised over £50 which will be donated to ChildLine.
Thank you also for all of the kind donations sent into school for Save our Family as part of our Harvest work. A representative from this charity came into school to speak to all of the children about their work on Monday and all of the donations have now been collected from school and shared with families in need.
On Monday, our Year 4 children joined children from other local schools for an afternoon of singing at Brine Leas School. This is part of a 'Singing Together' project which will be showcased in a special performance in spring term. During the afternoon the children learnt a variety of songs and actions and also performed singing in a round. Mrs Stoker was very impressed!
Amethyst class were visited by some special art 'helpers' on Tuesday to work on the design for a special piece of art work for their outdoor area. Thank you to the parent helpers who helped with this.
The EYFS children also took delivery of a special 'Bug House' made by a talented parent this week. The children were very eager to tell me what they are going to fill the house with to encourage Bugs to take up residence!
Pearl and Sapphire class have been treated to a visit by Mr Riley this week who visited to talk about his work getting milk from farms to the table as part of their topic on Farms and Farming. The children had lots of questions to ask him such as:
"How do you drive your big truck?" (Benji) and
"When do you get the milk from the farms?" (Archie).
Many thanks to Mr Riley for sharing his knowledge with the children. These classes have headed off on an exciting visit to Ford Hall Farm today to explore their topic even further – I am sure they will have great fun!
