As read out by the local author Jessie at the W.I. Garden Party.
I'm going to a garden party
For afternoon tea today
I've not had an invitation
But I'm going anyway!
It will be quite an occasion
I'm very sure of that!
I'll wear my best bib and tucker
But I'll not be wearing a hat!
There's sure to be a sarnie selection
Dainty like – with no crusts!
Set out with perfection
On willow patterned plates.
I won't be late
It's not far away
It will only take me a jiffy
To be on my way.
I'm getting closer now
Ah! I've arrived!
Better take off my pinny
And use a serviette!
'Cos there's only me at this party
The birds and the bees and me.
It's good, now and then
To do things 'Properlike'
And not with a tray on my knees -
'Lazylike.'
