A reminder that the next big-screen film is in the Public Hall tonight, Saturday, 3rd March.

The film is The Iron Lady, the biopic about Margaret Thatcher, starring Meryl Streep who has just won the Best Actress award for her performance at the Oscars.

Meryl Streep's portyrayal of Margaret Thatcher has been widely acclaimed. She won the Golden Globe award for Best Actress and, two weeks ago, the Best Actress award at the BAFTA ceremony. This week she won her Oscar.

The film has seen plenty of controversy too. The film's depiction of Thatcher has been criticised by her children, Mark and Carol Thatcher, who are reported to have said, "It sounds like some left-wing fantasy."

Stuart Jeffries of the Guardianwho was cautiously optimistic about a non-British actor playing Thatcher, expressed concern about its "narrative trajectory". He was concerned it could overlook "rage about what Thatcher, economy destroyer and warmonger, was doing to Britain" in favour of an "exclusive focus on Thatcher as a woman triumphing against the odds."

The film is showing in the Public Hall this evening starting at 7.30pm. You can get a taste of it by clicking on the link below the photo to see the official trailer. If an advertisement starts, you can click on Skip Ad and go into the trailer.

Tickets are £5 and available from Audlem Post Office, Williams' newsagents and Hoc's Fat Pigeon. Or you can just pay on the door.
