Industrial action on 30 Nov 2011

We have received a message from Rachel Bailey, Cheshire East’s portfolio holder for Safer and Stronger Communities.  The message is about next week’s day of action.  

In it she states that national strikes predicted to take place next week on Wednesday, 30 November 2011 could affect a whole range of public sector services in the UK. Services may be widely disrupted if the strikes do proceed.

Services which may be affected are:

Adult Services – Letters have been sent out to all service users and/or their carers ahead of any action. If users have not received their letter they are urged to contact their service manager.

Schools and transport – Parents are being advised to check with schools. The Council website will be updated regularly.

Children’s centres – Most children’s centres will be closed and parents are being asked to contact their centre before heading off.

Waste and recycling collections – Waste collections will be disrupted on the day. If bins are not emptied they will be collected on the next waste round after November 30. Further information can be found, on the day, via the Cheshire East Council website: www.cheshireeast.gov.uk

Cemeteries – Residents will still have access to all Cheshire East’s cemeteries and book of remembrance rooms.

Libraries – It is hoped that library buildings will be open as usual and normal opening hours will apply. Mobile services may be affected, so residents are advised to check our website on the day for updates.

Leisure centres and community halls – We advise that those wishing to attend a local leisure centre or community hall on November 30, check that it is open before travelling.

Car parks – Off street car parks are not likely to be affected. It is likely that multi-storey car parks will be open.

Customer services – It is anticipated that a normal service will be operating, although there may be some delays in answering the phone. We would ask people to ring services for information rather than visit council buildings.

Winter Services Delivery – In the event of severe weather conditions, every effort will be made to maintain normal service delivery.
