Hole in One – at 85

When Betty Grimley of Buerton, aged 85, headed off to Market Drayton Golf Club on Friday, little did she know the excitement that lay ahead.

Stepping up on to the 7th tee, a 7-iron in hand, she struck the perfect shot and holed in one, a feat many golfers strive for yet never achieve.

Not that it's her first such success, indeed, she's had two holes in one whilst in her eighties and three in all during her thirty or so years playing golf.

With so many players on the Market Drayton course that day, and a tradition of buying drinks for all in the clubhouse, it could have been an expensive round of golf for Betty. Fortunately, there was an excellent alternative – a donation to the Golf Club Captain's charity – Help for Heroes, which provides invaluable support for injured servicemen.

Congratulations to Betty. There will be many local golf enthusiasts raising their caps to her success – and maybe feeling just a little jealous.
