The Hoard and its context

Several visitors were welcomed to the History Society meeting on Thursday when John Whitehead linked some of the objects from the Staffordshire Hoard with other Anglo Saxon treasures around the country.

The pictures shown revealed the glorious gold, precious stones and intricate design of the work. John drew our attention to some of the symbolism involved and links with Christianity.

The talk was preparation for the group's coach trip in July to see the Hoard at Hanley and to visit Rode Hall for a guided tour and a cream tea.
