On Wednesday this week, Audlem History Society went to Nantwich for the first of
their summer outings, when Bill Pearson escorted 24 members on a tour of the men's
and women's hospitals at the Barony, plus a visit to the old workhouse (now up for sale),
and the children's workhouse.
Bill had given a talk on the history of Nantwich Workhouse earlier in February to our Society, so this was a follow-up visit which he had kindly offered to undertake.
On a beautiful morning, we wandered around the whole site whilst Bill talked us through the history, and passed round old photographs and maps.
As always, we got more than our money's worth from Bill, who is an enthusiastic and highly-knowledgeable guide to Nantwich history. A great end to our season of talks, and we now look forward to the autumn agenda, starting in September.
