Audlem History Society's Walking Tour of Shrewsbury

Sue Davies, along with her husband Geraint, both long-standing members of the Society, very kindly organized 2 half days of tours of Shrewsbury town, (and Sue emphasised it is definitely a town, not a city!) for members of Audlem History Society.

Sue grew up in Shrewsbury and lived there until she was 18, so her knowledge is vast, and she had done so much preparation for her tour that the detail was impressive.

She started the tour at the station, progressing through to the medieval area, taking in so many different buildings en route, and pointing out so much of interest to her audience that would surely otherwise have been missed.

Geraint also had a couple of chats with us concerning the carpentry of the oldest buildings, showing us examples as we progressed, and then taking us to the Celtic area of the town where he talked about the link between Welsh and English place names, and giving us a flavour of some of the conflicts along the border.

It was such an interesting trip with ideal weather too. We are so grateful to Sue and Geraint for taking such trouble to help us appreciate the many facets of Shrewsbury.
