It's one of the most beautiful settings for a many a mile: the Highfields Gala is on today and tomorrow from 12noon until 6.00pm.
The Gala will be a tribute to the late Jack Baker of Highfields and in aid of Audlem Scouts and Guides.
Yesterday, preparations were in full swing with rows of marquees going up, portaloos being delivered and local organisations hard at work preparing displays. A massive marquee was already in place for a 240-seat Gala Dinner with all seats sold. This alone will raise significant sums for the Audlem Beavers, Cubs, Brownies, Guides and Scouts.
Audlem District History Society has an excellent display depicting the history of Highfields, its notable residents and visitors and much else of local interest. Sixty five local businesses and organisations have contributed to make this an event not to be missed.
Admission is just £6 on the gate each day or £5 from Audlem Post Office in advance – for children under 16 years of age it's free admission accompanied by an adult.
The gates are open from 12noon each day and the Gala finishes at 6.00pm. Highlights include the Falconry at 2.30pm on Saturday and the Antique Roads Show on Sunday at 2.00pm. The helicopter is arriving on Saturday at 12.45pm.
Highfields is just two miles south east of Audlem on the road to Norton in Hales, past Kinsey Heath. If travelling from Audlem, turn right at the Lodge Gates follow the drive. There's lots of parking.
This promises to be a very special event which we hope will be remembered for many a year. And it's all for a good cause.
David Brettell of Newport and his team will provide many of the valuations and expert advice. John Pass and his team will also be there to look at jewellery, gold, clocks, watches, medals and coins.
A clarinetist will be entertaining the crowds for the Antiques Road Show and there is plenty of parking.
