Local resident Chris Lewis writes: "There seems to have been little dimunition in the menace of heavies in the village since the de-prime.

"Cannot residents who see a heavy take the number and operator's details and pass it to the Parish Council. The operator could be contacted and reminded that the Woore – Audlem road is de-primed and would they adjust their Sat Navs accordingly. Even if this only achieves a 50% reduction in heavies that would bring significant relief."

Eddie Stobart, Marks & Spencer and the wonderfully named Norbert Dentressangle HGVs are amongst those still driving through the village.

Another approach being considered is to apply for weight limits on a number of bridges. The current Vote Poll on Audlem Online asks: "Do you agree with weight limits on the A525 and A529 roads through Audlem?"

So far, 93% of the 200 people voting agree with imposing weight limits.

With the A525 through Audlem now removed from the Primary Route Network, the routes used by long-distance HGVs, heavy trucks should use alternative routes instead of driving through the village.

Weight limits will not affect farm vehicles and will still allow access for local deliveries. They are aimed purely at the long-distance trucks. Do you agree with weight limits on the A525 and A529 roads through Audlem?

Your response will be an important aspect of any application to the Highways authorities for the imposition of weight limits. You can vote now if you haven't voted already – the Vote Poll can be accessed from the Homepage.
