It takes a strong motivation to take you away from family, friends and a job you actually enjoy, not to mention the village where you were born and bred, and lived all your life to date.

So it must be the call of the surf, and the beauty of the Pembrokeshire coastline with its beautiful beaches and rugged cliff tops, cosy hamlets and a pace of life that allows you to enjoy your surroundings that has enticed the Palins.

Though still retaining a base here in Audlem, Reuben & Jane are heading for their South Wales haven, indeed this Sunday saw Reuben head off a day ahead of taking up his new role as a PC in the Fishguard community.

Having patrolled the city streets of Manchester for the last few years, Fishguard will truly be a change of pace. Not to say that Sgt Palin did not enjoy working the Mancunian streets, he really relished his role with the GMP.

Manchester was also the music scene that Reuben enjoyed and shared with us through Reubadub Promotions. Both Reuben and Jane were instrumental in fetching some of the best singer songwriters and bands to the Village.

Thursday nights at the Lord Combermere saw many of the acts, as did the Audlem Festival and Oxjam, which Reuben and Jane worked hard to set up last year.

The last two Thursday nights at the Lord C saw the broad base of the talent and styles of music that are synonymous with Reubadub; Taylor and the Mason with their superb harmonies that they apply to what are unusual covers for their style of music and the one and only Modern Alarms. that fetches the sound of Manchester to the heart of South Cheshire.

Two very different nights, two very different sounds, two very class acts. Travelling Band will forever be the band that Reub worked hard/stalked, to get to play in Audlem, and through that he made some great contacts and a lot of friends on the Manchester scene.

This spread to bands from Leeds, but also closer to home from nearby Shropshire. Always looking for something different to share with the folks here, he enticed Jon Gomm, before Stephen Fry's 'WOW' twitter and the amazing Gideon Conn, The Rainband and Rook and the Ravens to name but a few.

Reubadub will still retain links with the Thursday nights. Kevin Farrell appears in his own right this Thursday, usually he's part of Darren Poyzer's band, courtesy of Reub, so keep popping along, Thursdays at the Lord C are really special and your love of live music keeps it all going.

In the meantime, I, Pete, friends and fellow musicians and promoters from the area, wish our friends well in their surfers' haven, and not least, if last week's turn out at the Lord C is anything to go by, so do you.
