Half a job?

Criticising major organisations is often a national pastime, but encountering two Canal and River Trust (CRT) workmen repairing the gate onto the towpath opposite the Bridge Inn, it seemed they were at last fixing the problem of the broken gate and fence.

They stated however they could only do a partial repair as they had insufficient materials. So it seems the CRT were content to send two members of staff from wherever they are based to repair the fence and one gatepost, whilst leaving the hinge gatepost which is rotted at ground level in situ, and not even providing a gate fastener.

I first reported this problem two and a half years ago, in February 2020, and a number of times since, though I understand from other residents the need for repairs was first reported five years ago.

90% of a job?

Since this article was written, we have received an update from Peter Silvester at Audlem Mill

The Canal & River Trust men were back today, and have replaced the rotten gate post, and have added a metal bit so the gate closes properly. Jean was going to call the piece "Half a Job" based on yesterday's work, but to be fair, things are much better now! It's probably now 90% of a job.
