Many who walk there may have noticed the work being done by the Canal & River Trust volunteers to tidy up the towpath area all the way along the Audlem flight of locks.

They meet on the second Saturday of each month, and over the winter have made significant improvements to the towpath and surrounding areas – cutting back undergrowth and brambles, cleaning up the brick pavers, weeding etc.

They have also removed the mud from the towpath between locks 14 and 15, getting back to the stone surface. The path there was in very poor condition.

So far, the work has been done by people who regularly volunteer to do work for Canal & River Trust, the charity that runs the canals. But they are hoping to attract local residents to come to help look after their local canal, which is surely one of Audlem's greatest assets.

If you would like to help, just ring Glenn Young on 07775 118823.

Remember to bring suitable outdoor clothing – you might get a bit dirty!
