A Gong for our Roger

The news broke this morning that Roger Millns, Chairman of ADCA, has been awarded the BEM (British Empire Medal) in today's Birthday Honours List.

The Honours and Appointments Secretariat hasn't told Roger what community work the nomination is specifically for. However, we know Roger has been very much involved as Audlem & District Community Action's Chairman in the setting up and developing a range of services for older people and carers over the last seven years. He has been able to use his long experience as a professional social worker within social care and health services in this part of Cheshire, including within Audlem.

Roger has also been very involved during the last three years, on behalf of ADCA, in providing additional good quality accommodation for the community at Hankelow Methodist Chapel and the Public Hall Annexe.

Being awarded the British Empire Medal, which is the lowest level of honours that are awarded (Roger's words), doesn't involve a trip to the Palace for a presentation. The medal is awarded at a local ceremony with the Lord Lieutenant of the County. However, recipients do get an invite to a Palace Garden Party. AudlemOnline understands that Roger and his wife, Maggie, may well take this up, not least to have a good "nose" around the Royal gardens.
