A Woore farmer has been given the green light to build a giant wind turbine despite protest from neighbours.

Shropshire Council's north planning committee has approved plans to erect the 80ft high turbine at Cherry Tree Farm in Woore.

Planners received more than 10 letters of objection from Woore residents who were worried at possible noise and the potential impact on wildlife.

Woore Parish Council also objected to the plans on the grounds of the potential impact on public health.

But Shropshire councillors gave the go ahead after hearing that the wind turbine was a 'reasonable size' and would have little effect on the landscape.

A report by planning officers recommended approval for the scheme after taking professional advice on the designs.

A report to councillors said: "it is considered that on balance the scale, siting and design of the wind turbine is acceptable as it will not have a detrimental impact on either the quality or character of the surrounding rural and open landscape."
