Four days ago, when announcing that October was another record month on AudlemOnline for readers and hits, we forecast that the final monthly total would exceed 60,000.

In fact, with 64,309 readers in the month, we saw an average of over 2,000 readers a day for the first time since we started in August in 2005.

The October figure was over 10,000 readers up on the previous best month, 54,073 in August this year, an increase approaching 20%.

It is thought, judging by the stats for individual stories, that the planning sagas are driving this growth although stories such as False Widow Spiders in Audlem and, somewhat embarrassingly, the editor's apology for a reduced service on the day of his wedding early in the month – the single most read story in October – still attract a very large readership.

October also saw this year's hits passing the million mark, the first time this has happened in a year.
