Work is now well underway on two projects to improve the towpath northwards from Audlem and the footpath down from the playing field to Audlem Wharf via the Shroppie Fly car park.

Both paths are closed while work is carried out. It is planned that the towpath will be completed over the next two weeks. This is a 600m stretch south from Bridge 80 – featured on Audlem Online yesterday.

The path from the playing field will, once the work is completed, have a gentler gradient and there will be improvements to the block steps as the path reaches the Shroppie Fly car park.

This path is much used at events such as the Transport Festival and throughout the year but can be very slippery in wet weather. The work on this footpath is being carried out by local contractor Dylan Jones and is being funded by Audlem Parish Council.

While there is an alternative path down to the Shroppie car park from the playing field while the work continues, unfortunately, there is no alternative northwards by the canal while the towpath work is underway.
