When another mechanical failure took their response car off the road for a day, Audlem First Responders decided it was time to look for a new vehicle. Their present car was inherited second hand from Cheshire Police.

Debbie Ruscoe-Icke, Group administrator, said "The team rely on their response vehicle to reach emergency 999 calls within a 9 mile radius of the village. They need the reassurance of access to a reliable vehicle for 24 hours a day, seven days a week".

In January, the Responder Team set themselves the daunting challenge of finding funds to purchase a 4x4 vehicle to reach remote rural areas and capable of operating in all weather conditions.

Various community groups have been fund raising and parish councils have made generous contributions. Today the Lottery Big Awards Fund has announced its support for the project and awarded the First Responders a grant of £10,000 towards a new vehicle.
