The Douglas Macmillan Hospice ('The Dougie Mac') has recently appointed an Admiral Nurse, the first in Staffordshire and only the fourth Admiral Nurse to be based in a hospice in the UK. The service has been developed in partnership with Dementia UK, the national charity that provides specialist dementia support for families through Admiral Nursing.
Admiral Nurses provide the specialist dementia support that families need. When things get challenging or difficult, the nurses work alongside people with dementia, their families and carers: giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions.
Wendy Mountford has recently joined the team from the North Staffordshire Memory Service and she will provide specialist dementia support to families in both the hospice and local community.
Wendy Mountford said: "I am really excited to have joined the team at the Dougie Mac . I feel privileged to have been given this opportunity and hope to make a real difference to people who have a dementia diagnosis and also their carers".
The service will open for referrals in May 2017.
