This review by a visitor to Audlem's newsiest store, Cheshire Organic Box, will be appreciated by many in Audlem. It was forwarded to us by Abi Clayton:
"At a time when many towns and villages are losing shops, it's a pleasure to go to the lovely village of Audlem and find a new one has just opened.
In Audlem there's still a chemist and post office, and there's even a furniture shop and a great bike shop.
The latest addition, Cheshire Organic Box, has some excellent neighbours. Oxtail and Trotter is a superb butcher and now (at the side) there's Wine Geek, who sell wonderful Wrenbury cider ("an orchard in a glass", a LLLovely shop which sells chocolates and Snugburys ice-cream.
Inside this tiny shop (it's bigger than you first think as it goes around the corner) there's some top quality organic fruit and veg.
Unlike the supermarkets they won't be selling this delicious asparagus in 6 months' time.
These lovely leeks would probably be rejected by a supermarket buyer, as they're not all the same diameter!
They've got fresh herbs in pots, like this coriander which will keep longer that the wilted offerings you see elsewhere.
I'm going to finish this picture with a doughnut peach*: I first discovered these in Bologna, they may not win a beauty contest, but they taste gorgeous!
I could have taken a better picture of it after I'd bitten into it (it was sweet, juicy and full of flavour) but, to misquote Bamber Gascoigne, once I'd started I just had to finish it!
You can now do a complete shop in Audlem, and buy top quality ingredients, in less time than it
takes to get through a supermarket checkout!
*AudlemOnline adds: We haven't seen this photo but liked the one of the cheeky tomato seen in the shop.
