Earth Day Spring Clean in Audlem

Along with the organisation Trash Free Trails (TFT), I'm planning an Earth Day Spring Clean in Audlem. Many trails, public spaces and wild places are being choked by single-use pollution, and rather than simply let it happen, I'm looking to do something about it — together with the local community.

In that spirit of community action, I'm looking for volunteers to commit one hour of their time on the morning of Saturday 15th April to collect single-use pollution (such as bottles, cans, crisp packets, food wrappers, etc.) in Audlem. Litter pickers, gloves and bags will be provided, as well as hand cleaning facilities afterwards. Pau Run and Ride — where I work as mechanic — have kindly agreed to act as an HQ on the morning and we will be meeting there at 0915 for an 0930 start.

As well as volunteering time, I am also looking for any kind individuals that might be willing to donate litter pickers. Again, Pau Run and RIde have generously donated a couple of boxes of gloves.

As this is the first running of this event, I'm hoping to keep it relatively simple: our focus will be on single-use pollution (not that we'll ignore other 'easy pickings'), we'll limit collection to one hour and we'll work in a relatively small area, such as the public playing field and surrounding area. However, I'm open to your suggestions and feedback on this.

I am already aware of the work that already goes on in Audlem keeping it free from rubbish and such an attractive village and this event is to complement that. There is also a research aspect to the day: we will be noting the type and prevalence of what we collect, and feeding this back into a national scientific study, which will inform governmental approach to single use pollution.

If you would like to be involved, would you please let me know by emailing me on jonmclements@gmail.com, messaging me on 07736 926 593 or popping into Pau where you can give Mat your name.

Thanks,
Jon Clements
