DUNHAM MASSEY CIRCULAR WALK FOR WINTER

Peter Jackson is leading this walk: Meet at 8.30 a.m. in Audlem Car Park.

Parking is in Dunham Massey Park car park post code WA14 4SJ. Car Park is free to National Trust Members, so please bring your cards with you as there is a daily charge for parking if you are not a member.

The walk is approximately 8 miles and will include a Tow Path walk along the Bridgewater Canal, and a walk along the Trans Pennine Way, plus a couple of short road lengths. There will be a lunch stop at Dunham Visitor Centre, followed by a walk round the Deer Park which has over 130 Fallow Deer, we should see quite a few on our way round.

Those with National Trust Membership Cards could also go round the Winter Gardens which has a lot of Winter Flowering Bulbs on display including Snowdrops, Irises, Hellibores and Cyclamen. There is a charge for non-members.

When I tried the walk this week, it is mainly flat but muddy in parts. I'm sure we will be able to manage the muddy areas.

Please note that

Dogs must be on extended leads in the Park (although there is an area with lunch benches where they can have a good run), but otherwise they are free to be off their leads on the Canal and Pennine Way.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.

Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
