We have just had a report of a lady who has taken a winter mooring in the village near to lock 14. Unfortunately she had to leave her boat to go home for a while and while she was away someone has siphoned all the diesel from her fuel tank.

The theft of virtually every drop of fuel also resulted in damage to the engine when it was started, the owner thinking she had a full tank. Boaters (and indeed others) in the village should be beware that there is a diesel thief about.

Coincidentally, we have been told by the Oil Baron, who negotiates prices for around a hundred residents in Audlem, that there have been reports of diesel thefts in many parts of the country.

It appears that thieves are tracking the delivery tankers and noting addresses that have a full tank before returning later and stealing what is now a very valuable commodity.

The Oil Baron recommends fitting a tank lock as a precaution that might be enough to put off a thief.
