Each month, the AudlemOnline team sends a 500-word article about the village to the publishers of the Whitchurch Gossip and Market Drayton Gossip magazines.

These excellent publications are widely (and freely) distributed in North Shropshire and many in Audlem see a copy, particularly of the Whitchurch magazine. Many of our readers, however, are outside their distribution area.

We thought you might like to read what we said about the village this month in the December issues:

Audlem's busy Business Life

Audlem business life has seen recent success and continues to grow. Overwater Marina, just to the north of Audlem, has continued its winning streak scooping up two major awards for 2012. Overwater's Janet Maughan collected the Green Apple Environment Award at a prestigious ceremony at The House of Commons.

Overwater Marina was recognised for its commitment to the environment and best practice, which includes the spacious design of the marina, the landscaping, wildlife, recycling and encouraging greener alternatives to the standard toilet chemicals as well as other household products.

Overwater Marina has been invited to have their winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice and will be considered to represent the UK in the European Business Awards for the Environment.

In October, Alexandra and Anthony Davis from the marina attended a glittering awards ceremony at the new Salford City Stadium in Manchester where they won the Tourism & Leisure Business of the Year Award at the UK Heart Safe Awards 2012.

This was awarded for Overwater Marina's continued commitment to the safety of their moorers and visitors.

Earlier in the year, the North West Ambulance Service generously located an Automated External Defibrillator at the marina and all the staff have been trained in its use. Anthony is also a qualified Lifeguard, and Alexandra, a highly qualified safety diver and an First Aid Trainer/Assessor.

Luckily the village of Audlem has an excellent First Responder Team who can also be on site in minutes for emergencies.

At the end of November, The Deli reopened in Shropshire Street while the recently opened butchers shop in Cheshire Street, Oxtail & Trotter, has proved very popular with new products being added to its range continuously – game, venison, mutton, ready prepared meals and a range of delicious charcuterie to name but a few.

The proprietors of Oxtail & Trotter are also planning to develop the yard next to the shop with four new shop premises. Plans of the new development have been on display at the butchers shop and will see Audlem's range of shops continue to grow, quite an achievement when so many small towns and villages are seeing more closures than openings.

The village's shops opened late for the Big Switch On on Thursday 29th November when the Big Tree in the Square, large trees on the roads entering the village and fifty small trees on shops and buildings were illuminated at a glittering event.

ADAS, the Audlem District Amenities Society; the Audlem Traders; the Audlem Lass team; FASA, the Friends of Audlem School, and special guest, Father Christmas, all worked together to make this a memorable evening ensuring Audlem is the best dressed and illuminated Festive village for many a mile.

The very popular Carols in the Square takes place on Friday 21st December and ten days later fireworks will illuminate the sky as the church bells ring out as Audlem sees in the New Year in typical style.
