On Thursday morning, one of the Audlem bell ringers will be tolling a half-muffled bell before a funeral at St James' Church. Expect to hear the Nine Taylors: nine blows (or double blows: open and muffled), a pause, a blow for each year of the deceased's life (count if you want to know), a pause, and nine blows again.

On Thursday evening the usual ringing practice will be starting a bit early, when six of the ringers will try to ring a celebration Quarter Peal, to mark the birth of a ringer's grandchild: about 40 minutes of ringing, including all possible orders of the six bells.

If you live in Audlem and would like the bells rung to mark a very special occasion, please contact me on 812038 to discuss it.
