As normal the Volunteer Lock Keepers / Lock Rangers based in Audlem met in their covered accommodation for the July Task Force Day.
We were greeted by our full time Team Leader 'Ange' who went through the safe systems of work for the days activities, these included the regular
....all in preparation to give extra mooring space for the Classic Boat- Festival of Transport later in the month of July. Plus general lock keeping duties.
In total twelve persons were on duty today, (all issued with life jackets) the number of volunteers included three ladies from the 'Seasalt Shop' in Shrewsbury who had freely given up a days work to be involved with the team. Thank you ladies.
We started the day in the lock 15 area where the group split in to three, the strimming team, litter picking and lock keepers operating a 'buddy up system' with some of our visitors, as always, the day went well and all work plans were covered. Plus the bonus of staying dry during the days work.
Then 'yes yes' the team made its way back to the covered accommodation to our 'Resident chef Robbo' who was busily rattling the pans as he prepared our hot drinks and bacon butties, extremely welcome and tasty.
For information the Volunteer Lock Keepers will be operating locks 12 down to 15 over the 'Festival weekend' Friday through to Monday to assist passing boat traffic with mooring availability, offering assistance and general lock keeping duties, as required, through a work rota which has now operated very successfully over the past years.
Our next planned Task Force Day is on Friday 9th August with a 10:00am start but 'as always you will find us operating the flight most days.
