Cricket Report

Audlem's cricketers had another successful weekend with back-to-back wins in their local derbies against Woore on Saturday and Wistaston the following day. The league team came away from The Falcon Field with a 6 wicket victory whilst their Sunday counterparts made home advantage count the following day defeating Wistaston by 138 runs.

The Saturday X1 were missing both their regular opening bowlers in Simon Swift and Callum McIlveen and also were without prolific opening batsman, Dan Butler who suffered a knee injury the day before the game. After losing the toss Audlem found themselves in the field and soon discovered that taking the pace off the bowling was going to be the most productive option on the day. All five bowlers on show managed to contain the home team and make scoring difficult whilst taking regular wickets throughout the innings. The stand out performer was Dave Parkinson who bowled his full allocation of 8 overs for only 9 runs whilst taking 2 wickets. Fellow spinner Neil Humphries also claimed 2 victims for 23 with Andy Rothwell, Ron Paul and Abi Jayan having a wicket apiece. Woore's innings closed on 147 for 9 with the other two wickets to fall down to run outs. Dan Manning was the home team's top scorer with 39 not out.

Audlem had few alarms in reaching their total with the winning runs coming in the 36th over with six wickets in hand. Richard Wilson continued his fine run of form to top score with 65 and was well supported by Chris Shenton ( 25 ), Irfan Shaik ( 19 ) and Andy Rothwell ( 19 not out )

The toss was also lost the following day but this time Audlem were asked to bat first much to their delight. The batsmen were soon into their stride scoring at a run a ball and managing to accumulate a very good score of 258 for 7 off the 40 overs. This proved to be a winning total as Wistaston battled bravely against the odds to finish on a creditable 122 all out against some good bowling from the home team

Full scorecards can be viewed for all the games on audlem.play-cricket.com.

This weekend both teams are at home with another local derby on Saturday when Onneley are the visitors to The Gorse Croft and the following day Church Leigh are our guests.
