Following the announcements about the proposed new HS2 hub station, Cheshire East Council – using a team led by Arup – a global firm of consultant property development engineers and planners – and commercial property and real estate advisors CBRE – is preparing a masterplan which aims to see 6.3 million square feet of commercial development on prime development land in Crewe.

The plan also aims to deliver, by the year 2043, 37,000 new jobs on the back of the development as well as 10,000 new build homes within a total development area of 2,273 acres in central Crewe.

This news coincides with the rebranding of the Northern Gateway Development Zone as The Constellation Partnership, which aims to deliver 120,000 new jobs throughout an area spanning Cheshire and Staffordshire, and also 100,000 new homes.

The announcement was made at MIPM, a property development conference held last week in Cannes, in the South of France.

Speaking at the conference, leader of Cheshire East Council, Councillor Rachel Bailey, said "With HS2 coming to Crewe in 2027, the town is set to become one of the most connected places in the UK and a great place to invest and do business. This will be a revolutionary change for the area as Crewe will be only 25 minutes by train from central Manchester and Birmingham as well as being less than an hour from central London."

An artist's impression of the re-developed rail station at Crewe was also presented.
