Audlem drivers are urged to avoid the M6 today after a serious collision this morning in which one person died.
Emergency services are still at the scene and police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened at about 6.45am.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: " At approximately 6.45am a call was received which reported a road traffic accident on the M6 southbound between junctions 16 and 15 when a vehicle left the road.
"Emergency services attended. It was a two vehicle collision. One person was a confirmed fatality at the scene."
The carriageway re-opened just before 11am but traffic is struggling to recover with delays beyond J18.
